Important Things You Would Want To Know When Applying A Sunless Tanning Lotion

By Haywood Hunter

Self tanning products are offering a safe option for tinting the skin without causing negative effects. It is now advisable that people refrain from basking under sun or using the tanning beds to glow their skin. With a sunless tanning lotion, it is able to eliminate the adverse effects that arise when people use tan beds or bask in sun to tint their skin. The lotions are made using ingredients, which are capable of giving skin a dark complexion that is beautiful without necessarily causing harm.

Since people have different types of skin, some products may be sensitive to specific skin properties. A spot testing can help in determining the effects you will get from a tan. A patch test is essential because it allows you establish if the tanner will work pretty well on your skin. Also, make sure you choose a lotion, which gives a tint for extended period.

Improper use of tan products can lead to streaks and ugly marks. A pre-application procedure is needed to clean the body and open up the pores. Proper shaving of thick hair on body such as the chest will enhance even distribution of tan. The presence of hair on your skin can affect the way in which a tan lotion spreads on surface.

The hair could trap some of the lotions and create orangey and streaked surfaces. To prevent those problems, you should make sure every procedure is done properly. You need to wash your body before you put on any substance in dermis. By washing, you remove the dirt, oils, dead skin, and salts on surface.

The skin may develop streaks and other ugly marks. It may also appear too orange. Some skin is just too hard to absorb tan products and it needs to be moisturized such as the hands and elbows. Although use of moisturizers is not advisable, there is need to ensure the dry and rough parts are moisturized.

Moisture may lighten a tan lotion and make it drip over surface causing marks that look unsightly. If you are going to shave, make sure you do a day or two before applying a self tanner. Immediately after you have shaved, the skin is very sensitive and if you use the tanner products, it may cause irritation.

Allow the shaved areas to heal by shaving some days before you apply your tan. In choosing self tanning products, make sure you go for one that can offer a tint effect for long. Some products will only remain on skin for a few days and fade away. Others can stay on skin for a couple of days or even weeks before they fade out.

Such inconsistencies in tanning will eventually produce undesirable effects. Some skin such as the facial part may require a lighter shade when compared to other body parts. Alternatively, you may want to apply one layer of tan on facial skin against two layers of same tan on other body parts. This is because facial skin absorbs substances faster than the other parts.
